Popular Gadget | RIM BlackBerry PlayBook Priced| The RIM BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will cost “under $500,” according RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie. In an interview in Seoul, Balsillie also announced RIM might sell the PlayBook through both carriers and retail outlets like Best Buy and Target, Bloomberg reports.
Balsillie described the PlayBook as “very competitively priced,” presumably, as it will relate to the 9.7-inch iPad, which currently starts at $499.BlackBerry PlayBook
The PlayBook will sport a seven-inch screen and run the new BlackBerry Tablet OS, which will be built on the QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture. It will also have a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, b/g/n Wi-Fi, support multitasking and Flash, as well as offer the ability to tether to a BlackBerry smartphone via Bluetooth for a data connection.
Balsillie is bullish on the PlayBook’s market prospects, despite Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ claim that the PlayBook and other seven-inch tablets are “dead on arrival.”
Balsillie claimed that Apple’s control of the tablet market will “change when we’re in the market.” Later he added, that he thinks customers are tired of Apple’s heavy-handed control.
